The Vantrease Jazz Band

The Vantrease Jazz Band welcomes a new saxophonist this year (2017): Greg Tardy, Assistant Professor of Jazz Saxophone at the University of Tennessee School of Music.

While in New Orleans, Greg performed with the Neville Brothers and the Elvin Jones Jazz Machine. In New York, he performed with an array of artists including Wynton Marsalis, James Moody, Betty Carter, Tom Harrell and John Patittucci. In recent years, he has played clarinet on recordings with Stefan Harris, Tom Harrell and Andrew Hill. He was nominated for Best Debut Artist of the New York Jazz Awards. He has received great critical acclaim for his project, "Serendipity" and for a more recent CD entitled "The Truth."

The New York Times says "When you hear (Tardy) play, you may hear his roots in funk, blues, classical, gospel and various forms of jazz, but you will always hear his soul."

Greg will be joined by Michael Alvey (piano) and John Alvey (drums).
